Beef Casserole in Beer

1kg Beef Stew Cubes

100g Bacon
50g Gammon
1 tablespoon Mustard
300g Sliced Onions
1 tin light Beer
Bay Leaf
Parsley
300ml  Beef stock (use cube)
40g Unsalted Butter
4 slices of Bread, slightly stale
Salt and Pepper to taste
 
N.B. Items in bold are available at all MF outlets.
 
Cut bacon and smoked ham into cubes or strips. Fry in a little butter or oil over a high flame for for 5-6 minutes together with the beef.
 
Remove meat and put onions in pan and fry lightly. Sprinkle a little sugar and caramelise.
 
Add herbs, meat and salt. Lower flame.
 
Spread mustard on bread and place in casserole dish. Put meat and onion mixture on bread. Pour beer and beef stock over.
 
Cover and cook for 1 hour on a low flame or in the oven.
 
Serve with oven baked Sautee Potatoes.
